13.06.15 was a big date and saw the opening of the fantastic new Greenwich Centre, Woolwich Road/Vanbrugh Hill. It was opened officially a few days later by the Mayor, Norman Adams, and Denise Hyland Council Leader. It was really good to have our Olympic athletes there to help out.
This heart of the community resource has a new library open till 10 p.m. (already the third most popular in the Borough). It has really good facilities for everyone (including a children's film club and a games centre -X Box Wii etcetera), quiet study areas and hosts a wide variety of daily newspapers and magazines.
The Leisure Centre is modern, light and clean with a 25 metre fitness pool, learner pool, gym and exercise studio. It seems to have more exercise bikes than the Tour de France. Both pools have state of the art access for the disabled or semi-ambulant.
Importantly there is an RBG Service centre to provide services to residents (similar to the one at Eltham and Woolwich). There is an excellent and reasonably priced cafe and a crèche.
The excellent Vanbrugh Hill Medical Practice has relocated to the Greenwich Centre offering the level of quality facilities that all NHS patients in the UK should enjoy!
There is a new public square, green space, shops and restaurants. There are 645 new homes (nearly half of which are affordable to attract first-time buyers) made up of flats, maisonettes and houses and 500 square metres of affordable space for business use, Twin Training is already in the building.
The Centre really is a fantastic addition to East Greenwich and Peninsula ward so bring your swimming cossie and come along!
