Out canvassing again at the week-end and May Day (bank holiday). The latter a superb three session day involving all of three of us, in Greenwich West, with our Parliamentary candidate Matthew Pennycook and local Council bi-election candidate Mehboob Khan.
Fantastic reception for Matt and Mehboob as three teams worked their way through the estates. Level of support was very strong and a competition broke out about who could distribute the most window posters. Really heartening to talk to people who were engaged and knew in their hearts who would act in their best interests to support them and their family members.
Cllr Brain managed two sessions whilst Cllr Lloyd, the Tigger of canvassing, bounced through all three! Weight falling off us - canvassing is so much cheaper than going to the gym!
Thanks so much to all activists who gave up their day off to help, really appreciated.
Last night 05.05.2015 another really positive session this time in Peninsula ward (Barney Close). Again a significant numbers of supporters reconfirmed. Windy, we picked up a few bins that had blown over, but thankfully no rain. Tonight 06.05.2015 out again for our last session.
Since we started canvassing we have visited every house and flat in Peninsula ward, either speaking to people or leaving election material. In many cases more than once.
For us Cllrs, canvassing allows us pick up 'live issues' and case-work from people, outside the normal channels of surgery, tenants and interest groups meetings, e-mail, etcetera. It's important face to face contact with people who matter.
One more day to go. We'll finish with Neil Kinnock's famous comment (modified slightly for current use) made in Bridgend, Glamorgan, on Tuesday 7 June 1983
"If the Conservatives win on Thursday, I warn you not to be ordinary. I warn you not to be young. I warn you not to fall ill. I warn you not to get old."
It may have been said 32 years ago and you'll have seen many things change Tories don't
