OK we're back following long, tiring but really successful campaigns for our three south-east London M.P.s and others across London. Well done to them all and especially our new M.P. for Greenwich and Woolwich Matthew Pennycook - a really positive result for a new M.P. - increasing the existing majority.
So no more letter boxes and door bells for a while...except...for the mayoral election in Tower Hamlets and then the London battle. Greenwich Councillors and Party members have being canvassing 'north of the river'. Last Sunday, despite the poor weather, saw lots of people out and Monday 08 .06.2015 we're out again meeting at Woolwich DLR station 18.00 hours. Come along if you've got the time.
All of three of us have continued to undertake our additional responsibilities and formal duties whilst responding to residents' and ward needs via our casework throughout and post the election campaign. Don't forget our surgery is held at the Forum every Friday night 19.00-20.00 hours.

02.06.15 Chris Lloyd and Stephen Brain attended Planning Board and spoke against the proposed Valley House development. Both made strong comments on that lack of affordable housing (just under 19% and the segregation of affordable residents, especially by means of a 'poor door'. They also commented on the height of the buildings and lack of contextual relevance to existing built environment and residents.
03.06.15 Denise Scott-McDonald and Stephen Brain, along with the Leader, Cabinet Members, the CEO and senior officers of RBG attended the Apprenticeship launch a for the new Intercontinental /Aurora Hotel. The hotel, opening November 2015 will create over 400 jobs with at least 40% designated to residents of RBG. Held at the O2 as show case event in the morning, it had over 200 potential apprentices attending the afternoonsession.
RBG and the ward Councillors are fully committed to this type of regeneration, bringing jobs and income to the borough, adding to our successful tourist economy that makes Greenwich an internationally recognised destination.
13.06.15 is a big date and sees the opening of the fantastic Greenwich Centre, Woolwich Road/Vanbrugh Hill. This heart of the community resource has: a new library replacing the old East Greenwich Library, a leisure centre with a 25 metre fitness pool, learner pool, gym and exercise studio. Importantly it has a Service centre to provide services to residents (similar to the one at Eltham). This will have a crèche, and cafe. The excellent Vanbrugh Hill Medical Practice will also relocate to the Greenwich Centre.
There is a new public square, green space, shops and restaurants. There are 645 new homes (nearly half of which are affordable to attract first-time buyers) made up of flats, maisonettes and houses and 500 square metres of affordable space for business use.
Bring your swimming cossie and come along!
